Abstract

Founded in 1880, the Beaumont Enterprise newspaper has served its local community for over one hundred and thirty years. This collection contains newspaper clippings and photographs from the paper, organized by subject. The bulk of the materials were created in the 1970's and 1980's.

Abstract This small collection includes fifty-six photographs of Dodge trucks sold by the Jackson Motor Company in Beaumont, Texas, with logos of local area businesses painted on them. Emmett A. Fletcher was a Beaumont businessman and elected official. He was elected as mayor of Beaumont in 1906 and served two terms over 12 years. He was involved in the creation of Beaumont's infrastructure, business, and city development. This is a small collection consisting of photographs, newspaper clippings, funeral remarks, and licenses for steamboat inspection and operation belonging to Emmett A. Fletcher.

John H. Walker (1909-2001) was born in Beaumont, Texas, and held a deep interest in Beaumont history. This interest culminated in the publication of his book, Beaumont: A Pictorial History.

Abstract Morris Cloninger graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and taught English at both Conroe and South Park High Schools. Concetta (nee Mazzagatti) Cloninger became interested in theatre while a student at South Park High School and then attended Lamar Junior College, where she studied under Irene Arnett. Abstract Ted "Dillon" Powers (1940-2011) was a graduate of Beaumont High School and Lamar University, and later a resident of Austin, Texas. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation, as well as the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He also was Coordinator of the Texas Historical Commission.
