Abstract

The Beaumont Iron Works Company was founded in 1910. During World War II it manufactured military equipment for the U.S. Army and Navy. Gene Bird Gilliom worked as James Baldwin's private secretery during his time as manager of Beaumont Iron Works, where she collected photographs of the company's plant, newspaper clippings, telegrams from Washington, D.C., and a copy of Baldwin's resignation speech.

Abstract The Jefferson Theatre was designed by architect Emile Weil in 1927, orignially for the Jefferson Amusement Company. The theatre closed in 1972, but reopened after an extensive restoration in 2003. This collection consists of materials originally collected by the Jefferson Theatre Preservation Society. This collection is comprised of scrapbooks and newspaper clippings compiled by Mildred Campbell Yates. Mildred Yates was a Beaumont native, and an active member of the community. She taught at local schools, and recieved her Master's at Lamar University. She was active in many local organizations and the community until her death in 2010. This collection contains newspapers related to subjects that interested her relating to society, culture, and current events.
