Biographical Note
Juanita Hughes Phelps (1918-2005) was born in Liberty, Texas in 1918. She went to Southern Methodist University and became an active resident of Beaumont for forty-seven years. She served as head of the Artist Series, president of the Magnolia District and State Federation of Woman's Clubs, and was involved with the Beaumont Opera and Beaumont Woman's Club. Her husband, Russell R. Phelps (1905-1984) was an architect in the Beaumont region who worked as part of the prominent Pitts, Mebane, Phelps, and White architectural firm.
