Scope and Contents

This collection contains the military, professional and personal records, including newspaper clippings, photographs, film reels and objects of a World War II pilot and Petroleum engineer of Beaumont, TX, primarily dating from the 1940s. The collection is mixed media encompassing physical textual records, images, and objects as well as digital records recorded on 35mm film, Betamax tape, and CD.

Biographical / Historical

Edmond A. (Buster) Goolsbee was a member of the U.S. Air Corps during World War II. He served in the European theatre and flew a P-47 fighter airplane. He participated in bombing missions with the 371st Fighter Group, eventually rising to the rank of Major in the 406th fighter squadron. The 371st was present during the D-Day invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and the sweeps across France and Germany. For his actions, he was awarded a Purple Heart, an Air Medal, and a Distinguished Flying Cross. His life outside of military service was marked by his graduation from the University of Texas in 1937, his career as a petroleum engineer in Beaumont and his marriage to his wife, Ann. He died in 1999.
