Biographical / Historical

KFDM is the first and oldest television station in the Beaumont area, serving Port Arthur, Orange, and Lake Charles, as well. It first went on air April 24, 1955. The letters stand for "Kall for Dependable Magnolene", in reference to Magnolene car lubricant produced by the Magnolia Petroleum Company, who founded the radio station in 1924. Though the station was initially owned by Beaumont Broadcasting, it was sold to the A. H. Belo Corporation in 1969. In 1983, Freedom Newspapers in Santa Ana, California bought the station from Belo Broadcasting Corp. Currently, KFDM is owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group.
