Scope and Contents

The contents of this collection consists of scrapbooks, administrative, and financial records, as well as events sponsored by the organization. The scrapbooks contain photographs and programs presented by the BCO Buffs. While the administrative and financial records include such things as minutes, by-laws, correspondence, financial statements, treasurer reports, and other miscellaneous items.

The Tyrrell Historical Library holds copyright. The researcher must secure permission to publish. All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted to the Tyrrell Historical Library. Historical Note

Established in 1973, the Beaumont Civic Opera (BCO) Buffs served as a fundraising organization under the Beaumont Civic Opera until it's disbandment in 1999. The purpose of the Beaumont Civic Opera was to bring high-quality opera to Beaumont, Texas and the surrounding region. The organization used local talent and resources to stage productions of well-known operas, operettas, and Broadway musicals. Some examples include: "Carmen," "Pirates of Penzance," "La Boheme," "Fiddler on the Roof," and "Oklahoma." The BCO Buffs provided financial support through various fundraising and publicity events. These events included: luncheons, preview parties of upcoming productions, and the Opening Night Gala. The Buffs also provided help with organizing productions, assissting cast members, and acting as ushers during the productions. The group served for 26 years until it was formally disbanded in 1999.

Abstract

The Beaumont Civic Opera Buffs were established in 1973 as a fundraising and publicity group for the Beaumont Civic Opera. The purpose of the Buffs was to aid the Beaumont Civic Opera in bringing high-quality performances to Beaumont and the surrounding area. The Buffs held fundraising events, sold tickets, and helped organize productions. This collection contains their administrative and financial records, as well as correspondence, programs, and scrapbooks.
