Biographical Note
Emmett A. Fletcher was a Beaumont businessman and elected official. After graduting from Beaumont High School he worked at the Texas Tram and Lumber Company alongside his father and founder of the business, William A. Fletcher, a former Confederate soldier and early Beaumont resident. He sold his lumber interests to Kirby Lumber Company in 1901 after the Spindeltop oil discovery. His other business ventures included working as president of Beaumont Building Material Company, president of Neches Iron works, director of Gulf National Bank, and vice president of the Neches Canal Company. He was elected as mayor of Beaumont in 1906 and served two terms over 12 years. He was involved in the creation of Beaumont's infrastructure, business, and city development. He was born in Beaumont in 1867, married Gladys Thompson in 1915, and died in 1943.
