Scope and Contents

The collection consists of two large tartan scrapbooks and a box of the organization's records. These records include reference materials used to create the clan books, traditional Scottish poems and songs, an index of library materials related to Scottish heritage and history, and organizational materials such as membership lists and annual Burns dinner programs. The collection also contains a letter from Ms. Dorothy Callaway, creator of the tartan books, elaborating on the creation of the books and demonstrating her wishes to have Ms. Marilyn Manson bring the books to the Tyrrell Historical Library for preservation.

The Scottish Society of Southeast Texas is a community organization honoring Scottish heritage and culture in the southeast Texas region. Ms. Dorothy Callaway designed and constructed two tartan books featuring samples of tartan patterns, information about traditional Scottish costume, and reference information about clan heritage and history.
