Historical Note

The Jefferson Amusement Company was founded in 1917 by Sol Gordon and Joe Clemmons. The Company's headquarters was located in Beaumont where some of the most elegant movie theaters were located including the famous Jefferson Theater which opened in 1927. In 1942, Sol Gordon and Joe Clemmons expired and Julius Gordon (1911-1966) became chairman of the board. During the fifty (50) years of operations, the Jefferson Amusement Company controlled over eighty (80) theaters in Texas and Louisiana.
